This sacred form consists of two triangles joined at the center to form an X-form or hourglass. One form pointed down
represents the symbol of the earth, and the other is pointed up for the cosmos—a mirror of existence.
This iconography is utilized in Arapaho, Dakota, and other Plains tribes to represent their cosmology of reflection, a spiritual
view in which the physical world is a reflection of the sky and stars directly overhead.
This principle can be applied in many ways, for example, in the study of astrology, which suggests that the positions and
movements of celestial bodies correspond to human affairs, and in the study of alchemy, which also indicates that the
processes that occur on earth correspond to processes that occur in the universe.
Furthermore, in this spiritual practice and understanding, the Law of Correspondence suggests that by understanding
the principles that govern the universe, individuals can understand the principles that govern themselves. By working on
themselves, they can change the world around them.
